COLORADO CODES

Location of Embodied Carbon Code Jurisdictions

1 Statewide Buy Clean Colorado Act: Mandates low carbon materials in construction for public projects over $500,000.

IgCC (International Green Construction Code)Adoptions:

2 Town of Snowmass: 2012 IgCC, a WBLCA showing a 20% reduction in GWP can be used in place of sustainable material selection

3 Town of Carbondale: 2018 IgCC, a WBLCA showing a 10% reduction in two impact categories, or 5% reduction in three impact categories (all including GWP), in place of sustainable material selection

4 Denver: Denver Green Code is a derivative of the 2021 IgCC - provisions and options within Materials and Resource (MR)

MR02: Embodied carbon of concrete materials limits GWP of mixes or total concrete on project

MR03: Embodied carbon of steel materials requires product-specific EPDs for 75% of steel products and a GWP limit, and the manufacturing facility must have more than 50% renewable energy.

5 Boulder Energy Conservation Code: If pursuing prescriptive energy compliance (no energy model), option to gain points towards total required points.

Embodied carbon credits: Minimum of three materials from this section (unless plastic insulation or WBLCA credit is pursued), some required to have product specific EPDs, all with carbon/GWP limits for a percentage of project’s materials. WBLCA can meet this section for credit, with a minimum reduction of 10% for three or more impact categories (includes interior ceilings walls and floors)

6 Lakewood Enhanced Development Menu (EDM): Options for low-carbon concrete, reclaimed materials and adaptive reuse

7 City of Denver Energize Denver, Adaptive Reuse Embodied Carbon Credit: EUI target adjustment with embodied carbon reductions from building and material reuse
